Indian serials (for those that have the slightest clue) are what aunties waste most of their afternoons watching or otherwise known as Indian soaps. But to those that are involved in the serial world...it's your daily dose of drama, romance, and slight bits of comedy. From saas-bahu drama to falling in love, Indian serials provide an escape from the boring daily routines of the desi housewife. Having been an active member of the serial-watching community for the past three years, I've spent hours keeping up with all the latest stories from various TV channels coming to the realization that each serial reaches a certain point of idiocracy in which viewers will soon lose interest.
Let's begin with one of the most-liked serial on StarPlus (an Indian TV channel which specializes in championing these serials), Diya Aur Bati Hum. This serial begins with a guy and a girl from two different backgrounds...
Sandhya - an annoying know-it-all that dreams of becoming a police officer, but loses her parents before she is able to start her education
Sooraj - an incredibly nice guy that listens to whatever his mother tells him to do, a family man with only a 5th grade education running a very successful sweet shop
The story continues after Sandhya loses her parents. Her brother tricks her into marrying Sooraj and she tries to adjust in his weird family with an over-bearing mother, useless father, sneaky sister-in-law, cheap ass brother, and a lazy sister-brother duo. Over time, Sandhya wins over the love and support from all these people by foiling the plans and schemes of almost all the family members while giving the same blank expression in every shot.
She finally achieves her dream of becoming a police officer by accomplishing tasks that include parachuting from over 1500 feet (which every police officer should know how to do). As she struggles balancing a career and her sasural (in-laws home), she finds success in every aspect of her life.
HOWEVER...she is the worst wife I have ever seen despite the care and love her husband, Sooraj showers up on her. From a pregnancy scare after having sex only ONE time, she does not have the common sense of how to keep up with the most important relationship, her marriage. For viewers...this couple just makes you infuriated with the story especially since you know that Sooraj is trying, but Sandhya is a total dimwit on everything to do with being a wife.
So why do I keep watching this show? To find out that one day...Sandhya will be put in her place. She'll find that the situation at hand will be so out of control and she will fail instead of being right ALL THE TIME. You know that bitch ain't the freakin' CIA. It's time that this chick becomes more human than that annoying know-it-all who CLEARLY does not know how to boil water.

| OH REALLY? |
Therefore...Indian serials (most but not all) make you infuriated with their lack of concept and appeal, but you are still drawn as to how cute the lead actor always is...
How can you not want to smile at that charming face?
Love and Laughter,
LMS
